Our provenance desk handles a narrow band of the market: works with documented chains of ownership, institutional exhibition history and independent authentication. Fewer than one in nine works we assess reaches this imprint.

No exceptions have been made since the imprint was formalised. Where a work fails one test we will still tell you it exists — we simply will not sell it to you as a masterpiece.
Chain of ownership documented to first sale, or to a published catalogue raisonné entry. Anything with a gap between 1933 and 1945 is declined outright.
Attribution confirmed by the artist's estate, foundation or the recognised authority — never by us, and never by the seller's expert alone.
Exhibited, published or held in a public collection. A work with a literature record behaves quite differently at resale than one without.
Art Loss Register clearance, export licence confirmed, liens and inheritance claims searched in every relevant jurisdiction before contract.
Each entry below carries a complete dossier. Prices are as quoted this month and exclude applicable duty.

Sofia Marchetti, 2023
Marchetti painted this over eleven weeks aboard a research vessel off the Azores, working only in the ninety minutes after dawn. The result carries the particular grey-violet light of the mid-Atlantic at that hour, and a wave built up in more than forty translucent layers.

Kenji Aramaki, 2024
Aramaki maps tidal data onto a hard-edged grid: each band's width corresponds to a recorded tidal range at a named port. Rigorous, and from across a room, oddly warm.

Ines Duarte, 2024
A storm reduced to value alone. Duarte removed colour entirely from her palette for eighteen months, and this square canvas is the pivot of that period — nothing but graphite-greys, lead white, and the weight of a sea about to break.
The complete museum-grade holding, ordered by value. Works move off this list quickly and are not re-offered.

The desk assessed 214 works in the year to June 2026 and accepted 19. The works we decline are not necessarily poor — most simply cannot document their ownership history to the standard we publish.
Works acquired or consigned specifically to the Masterpieces desk, including several placed aboard vessels in our own fleet.

Nothing on this page needs to be bought sight unseen. Works travel to you under bonded transit, and our conservator attends every viewing.

A call to establish period, medium, scale and budget — and whether the work is going to sea, to a residence, or into storage as an asset.
Within ten working days: three to five candidate works, each with provenance, literature, condition and an independent valuation.
In Monaco, at your residence, or aboard. Works are unframed on request and inspected under raking light with our conservator present.
We negotiate, escrow, insure and deliver. Title passes only after clearance certificates are in your name, not ours.
Still unresolved? Our specialists answer directly — usually within a working day.
It is our internal standard, and it is published above: documented provenance to first sale, independent authentication, an institutional exhibition or literature record, and clean title searched in every relevant jurisdiction. A work must pass all four.
We advise on it rather than run it. Where auction is the right route we will negotiate the house terms, set the reserve strategy and attend — but our first step is always to offer the work privately to our own collector list.
Some can, under the Yacht & Canvas conservation specification. Others should not, and we will say so before you buy. Where a work is unsuitable, we arrange climate-controlled storage and a loan programme instead.
Funds are escrowed with a Monegasque notary or your own counsel. Release happens on transfer of clean title with clearance certificates issued in your name — never through an Elite ArtVoyage account.

Even if you are buying elsewhere. A second opinion on provenance costs €2,500 and has stopped four of our clients making a very expensive mistake.
One letter a month: fresh central listings, artist releases, and the private viewings we do not advertise. No forwarding, no third parties.
